Hey did you happen to see that post about indigenous brands to shop from or to support. I’m looking for it at the moment

i get that its very amusing to you guys but when non-brits make fun of heavily accented british dialects and say they’re impossible to understand or they sound funny or stupid its just like… why are you helping these elitist english pricks out? its historical fact that the upper class in the UK Deliberately cultivated a southern ā€œ"englishā€ā€œ accent amongst themselves that they decided denoted ā€˜status’ and have since called all other british accents 'unintelligable’ in order to protect class boundaries. accent is Such a sensitive race and class related subject here - oftentimes your accent is Assumed to indicate if you’re intelligent or not which is just Bullshit. its used to gatekeep jobs and housing and schools. so can you at least Try to stop making fun of british regional/working class accents and bully the posh english twats instead. we get enough shit at home without americans or whoever else on twitter joining in

tl;dr:

And this doesn’t just go for Scotland/Wales/Ireland either. The North of England gets hit with this sort of thing too, wouldn’t be surprised if Cornwall does as well. Not as badly perhaps but it is still the case.

i am talking about regional accents! but im mainly talking about the fact the uk has class specific accents. 2 people in london can grow up in the exact same borough. one in a nice house. one on a housing estate. and end up with totally different accents. one speaking Cockney. one speaking RP.

my mum spent hours of my childhood trying to get me to pronounce the H in 'house’ and 'water’ with a hard T because she knew it was gonna shape how people saw me

accent privilege is Alive in the south too

I legit just saw a fucking post making fun of british people who pronounce water bottle like 'wah'ah bo-ole’ and one comment underneath was like 'um nah don’t group us in with the chavs i dont speak like that’ because honestly its true only "chavsā€ speak like that and this perfectly demostrates the issue that everyone seems blind to and im sick of it. americans are helping reenforce this classism/racism and EVERYONE JUST FUCKING IGNORES IT because they either don’t understand or don’t care about PoC in the UK. The accent you’re making fun of is an accent disproptionatly belonging to BAME individuals in the inner-cities, especially London. It’s basically the UK’s equivalent of AAVE (as it’s not only just an accent but has an attached dialect) but the UK never had segregation so white people from the same communities have the same accent. I get that it doesn’t matter to a lot of you but if you’ve ever interacted with one of those posts you should reblog this and stop interacting they’re not funny anyway i don’t get why its so amusing to you guys to aggravate people over the way they speak thats so cruel.

There’s still been users still getting their accounts hacked and used by the Ray Bans bot. It is still a threat.

āš ļøDO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK IF YOU ARE TAGGED IN IT. It’s tagging masses of people in one go and targeting them directly now. Even using trusted users who were once a follower of yours.

APPARENTLY this is still an issue!

I’ve been getting recent reblogs saying more accounts have been hacked this way. Please be safe and DO NOT click that link!

Date this was reblogged and marks it as still an issue: 6/23/2021

There’s also a newer Louis Vuitton version that’s very similar, real shame to see old mutuals being hacked like this
